Holidaymakers and residents have been urgently advised to " move away from the coast immediately" after a magnitude 5.9 ( later revised to 6.0) earthquake struck at 1: 50 a. m. on May 14 . According to the Geodynamic Institute of Athens, the quake’s epicentre was located 20 km south of Kasos , between the islands of Kasos and Karpathos , with a depth of 64.4 km . The Ministry for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection issued the tsunami alert, emphasizing heightened risk particularly near Kasos . The warning applies to nearby islands including Crete , where coastal areas are considered at risk.
